Marta Kostyuk sealed her biggest career win in style, finishing with a signature backflip, as she clinched the 2026 Madrid Open title on Saturday.

With the victory, Kostyuk is set to rise from world No. 23 to a career-high No. 15 in the latest WTA rankings. The Madrid triumph marks her maiden WTA 1000 title and strengthens her case as a contender heading into the French Open, which begins on May 24 in Paris.

Coming into this year’s tournament, Kostyuk had a modest 5-7 record in Madrid, making this title run even more remarkable.
“It feels unbelievable to stand here right now. It took me many years to reach this point. The one word that I think about is ‘consistency’. It’s about showing up every day. I’ve been doing that really well the past year, so I’m really proud of myself and my team,” Kostyuk said as per Olympics.com.
“I never, ever thought that I would lift the title here,” a smiling Kostyuk said during the trophy ceremony. “It was not my favourite tournament for sure.”
Her run to the title was dominant throughout. Kostyuk dropped just one set in the tournament against Anastasia Potapova in the semifinals and secured notable wins over world No. 5 Jessica Pegula and Linda Noskova.
The victory marked her 14th career win over a top-10 opponent and capped a standout fortnight in Madrid. It also secured back-to-back titles for Kostyuk, following her triumph in Rouen just weeks earlier.
